1. Duo Deck (online): challenges, duels and questions that alternate between you. Press play above.
2. Two-player Kings Cup: pick the “Two players” rule set; every card becomes a duel, a truth or a quick race.
3. War: split a deck in half. Both flip the top card; the lower card takes a sip. On a tie, it’s war: three cards face down, then flip, and the loser takes 3.

Drinking card games for 2 people

With a deck of cards, the classics for two are War (lower card drinks), Higher or Lower (wrong guess drinks), Screw the Dealer (swap dealer every three turns) and two-player Kings Cup. For a longer game, play Speed: the loser of each hand takes a sip per card left in their hand, up to five.

Pace yourselves

With only two players, every card lands on one of you, so you drink roughly four times as often as at a table of eight. Turn on “Go easy” (2 sips at most per card), play with a light drink or water between rounds, or switch to No alcohol mode where sips become penalty points.

   You vs the player on your left: who can keep a straight face longer while the other pulls faces? Loser takes 2 sips.

   You: guess the player on your left’s favourite snack. Wrong? Take 1 sip. Right? the player on your left takes 1 sip.

4. task

   You: speak only in questions until your next turn. Slip and take 1 sip.

5. question

   You: what’s the first thing you noticed about the player on your left? Answer or take 2 sips.

6. question

   You: what’s the most “you” thing the player on your left has ever done? Answer or take 1 sip.

7. group

   You both point at who’s more likely to get lost. Whoever gets pointed at twice takes 2 sips.

8. duel

   You vs the player on your left: best pickup line. The other player judges honestly; the worse one takes 2 sips.

9. duel

   You vs the player on your left: tell your best joke. The other rates it; below 6, take 2 sips.

10. task

    You: show the player on your left the last photo in your camera roll, or take 3 sips.

11. question

    You: what’s one thing about the player on your left that annoys you? Answer or take 2 sips.

12. question

    You: when did the player on your left last make you really angry? Answer or take 2 sips.

Tips for a good game

• Keep penalties to one or two sips; two players drink often.
• Alternate who reads the card so neither of you is always the target.
