Editorial Guidelines: How We Write and Test Game Rules

Who writes the content

The rules, card prompts and guides on freedrinkinggames.fun are written and edited by the small team behind the site, the same people who run TruthOrDare.fun and MostLikelyTo.fun. We publish as “Free Drinking Games Editorial Team” rather than under invented names, because the work is shared and we won’t make up authors.

How AI tools are used

We use AI writing tools to draft rule explanations, variations and card prompts faster. Nothing is published as drafted: every page is edited by a person, and every game is played in the browser before it goes live. AI tools never decide what counts as a “rule”; how people actually play does.

Standards for rules

We describe how a game is commonly played and check it against several independent descriptions.
Where groups disagree (the 8 in Kings Cup, whether you can bounce in beer pong), we say so and list the common house rules instead of pretending there is one official version.
Trademarked games (UNO®, JENGA®) are described only as house-rule drinking versions played with your own copy. We don’t copy commercial card games or apps.

Standards for card prompts

Prompts are our own and appear on one page only.
Penalties are sips, capped per card; there are no chugging, “finish your drink” or binge prompts.
Every prompt must also work in No alcohol mode (sips become penalty points).
No humiliation, peer pressure or anything that singles out a player’s body, background or identity. Couples and spicy cards stay suggestive, never explicit. There is always a pass option.

Safety information

Health and safety advice, such as on the drink responsibly page, comes from public health sources (CDC, NIAAA, NHS) and links to them. We don’t give medical advice.

Numbers and claims

Counts on the site (games, cards) are calculated from our own data when the site is built. We don’t publish invented statistics, reviews or ratings.

Corrections

If a rule is wrong where you play or something doesn’t work, email hello@freedrinkinggames.fun. We fix mistakes quickly and update the “updated” date on the page.
