Kings Cup Extreme: wilder rules, still sips

The same ring of cards, turned up: every card is a dare, a forfeit or a hot seat. It’s louder and funnier, not boozier: penalties stay in sips and there’s a water break at the end.

  • 👥 4–10 players
  • ⏱ 30–60 minutes
  • 🎒 A phone or a deck of cards, one cup

A full deck with the rule on every card

Shuffle a virtual 52-card deck and pass the phone around the circle. Each card shows its rule, lasting roles appear as badges, and the fourth King ends the game.

Kings Cup Extreme: quick rules

Set up exactly like Kings Cup: cards in a ring, a cup in the middle, draw in turn. Each card has an extreme rule: 2 is a dare you give, 3 is a truth you answer, 5 is Phone Roulette, Queen puts you in the hot seat. The fourth King ends the game with 3 sips from the King’s Cup and a water break for everyone.

How Extreme differs from classic Kings Cup

Classic Kings Cup is mostly quick reactions (Floor, Heaven) and circle games (Rhyme, Categories). Extreme swaps those for social pressure in a good way: dares you set for each other, questions you have to answer, a hot seat and rules that make people perform, like speaking in an accent until the next 6.

What it doesn’t do is make people drink more. Penalties are the same sips as the classic game, the King’s Cup ends with 3 sips rather than a full cup, and the last King triggers a water break. The extreme part is the dares, not the drinking.

Dares that work (and ones to skip)

The 2 card lets a player set any dare. The best ones are funny, quick and don’t embarrass anyone for real. Some that land well:

  • Talk like a movie trailer narrator until your next turn.
  • Let the group choose your ringtone or phone wallpaper for the night.
  • Do your best impression of another player until someone guesses who it is.
  • Text a friend a compliment with no context and read out the reply.
  • Swap an item of clothing (hat, jacket, socks) with the player on your left.

Skip anything involving strangers, driving, anything dangerous, or someone’s body or looks. And anyone can take the sips instead of doing a dare: that’s the rule that keeps Extreme fun.

What is Phone Roulette?

On a 5, the player hands their unlocked phone to the person on their left, who reads out the last emoji they sent. It’s nosy enough to be funny without exposing anyone’s messages. Groups that want it wilder read out the last photo’s caption instead. Anyone can refuse and take the sips.

Kings Cup Extreme variations

Classic Kings Cup
Prefer the familiar rules? Play classic Kings Cup online.
Extreme without alcohol
Set the game to No alcohol: dares and forfeits stay, sips become penalty points.
Team Extreme
Split into two teams; dares are set by the other team and the losing team (most penalty points) plays the next song.
Sudden death King
The fourth King doesn’t end the game: that player sets one final dare for everyone, then the deck is reshuffled.

Tips for a good game

  • Agree on a “pass” rule before starting: anyone can refuse any dare and take the sips instead.
  • Keep phone dares to reading, never sending messages to strangers.
  • Rotate who sets dares so no one gets picked on.

Play it safe: every game here works with sips of any drink, or none at all. Only adults of legal drinking age should drink alcohol, alternate with water, and never drink and drive. [How to drink responsibly](/drink-responsibly/)

Kings Cup Extreme: FAQ

What is Kings Cup Extreme?

A version of Kings Cup where every card is a dare, truth, forfeit or hot-seat challenge instead of a gentle circle game. The setup and the fourth-King ending are the same.

Is Kings Cup Extreme more drinking?

Not here. Our extreme rules use the same sip penalties as classic Kings Cup; the extreme part is the dares and forfeits. The last King triggers a water break.

Can I change the extreme rules?

Yes. Open House rules in the online game, edit any card, and use “Share these rules” to send your version to the group.

How many players do you need for Kings Cup Extreme?

Four to ten is ideal: enough people for dares and the hot seat to be fun, but few enough that everyone gets turns.

What are good Kings Cup Extreme dares?

Quick, funny and harmless: impressions, accents, silly ringtones, compliments texted to a friend. Avoid anything dangerous, involving strangers or targeting someone’s body.
